Half term break - clay modelling workshop for under 5's

Half term break... what a great time to try out new activities!
We've had a lovely day and had a couple of younger children in today to try their hand with our various clay activities during their school holiday.
One of the most common complaints about traditional potters clay is that it can be a little hard for smaller children, and can be a little bit too messy/sticky - interesting to note that some smaller children can be quite conscious about "getting messy", and shy away from craft modelling activities for this reason.
We used a variety of clay today, as our guests were 3/4 years old. Our softer, clay was great as it was a non-mess clay, that doesn't leave any residue and is very soft and pliable. Great for kids that aren't used to the texture and manipulation of using clay. We also used a harder more traditional clay, that is an air-dry clay. We used this to take imprints of various objects and explore the shapes that were made. Being a traditional clay, this one left a little residue, but our explorers were not deterred and had a great time adding new items to the clay patch.
